Hello, my name is Max. Welcome to my personal portfolio.

I am currently a senior associate software developer with Capital One. I grauduated from The Ohio State University with a B.S. in Computer Science and a minor in Business in 2021.

As a developing computer scientist, my goal is to impart positive change for others by leveraging technology. I strive to be a leader in everything I do, bring a determined and positive attitude to all my projects, and improve myself and my team every day.

I am especially adept at working with a diverse team in a challenging and fast paced environment. I find the projects with the biggest impact are often those who value diversity and inclusion above all.

    Associate Software Developer -
    Capital One Financial

       August 2022 - Present

    Responsible for developing resilient services and infrastructure supporting multiple crucial business functions from customer resiliency to fraud. Developed infrastructure and rollout of a brand new micro-container to enable call center agents to effectively service customers in recoveries. Currently developing in the fraud prevention space, working to harden and optimize back end API's with hundreds of thousands of critical calls per day.

    STEM Educator - Americorp

       May 2020 - August 2020

    Responsible for STEM education of youths aged 7-12 at the Boys and Girls Club of Fairbanks. Taught recurring education sessions on computer science fundamentals, mathematics, and biological sciences. Service focused on community development among diverse lower income communities.

    Software Development Intern - CACI

       May 2019 - August 2019

    Developed extensive Python code with an emphasis on component and software design. Maximized usability of new libraries written in support of high-profile products. Interfaced with non-technical customers on cross-functional projects to gather requirements and develop accordingly.

    Project Management Intern - Carfax

       May 2018 - December 2018

    Coordinated with managers and developers within SCRUM sprints to brainstorm and execute on technical projects. Used query tools along with Excel to calculate and display valuable business analytics, including $100,000+ fraud identification and elimination. Utilized service desk software to problem-solve technical iPad app issues with sales representatives in the field. Extended full-time summer position to part-time during school year.

    Responsible for teaching and mentoring secondary students in the basics of web development. Guided students through programming lessons and gave insight into the day and the life of a software developer.

    Potomac Appalachian Trail Club, 2023 - Present

    Responsible for conducting surveys of trails within the PATC domain. Collected accurate GPS trail survey data, took detailed notes on trail conditions, as well as captured photographs of landmarks, signs and more.

    Engineers for Community Service, 2018 - 2022

    Responsible for outreach, member recruitment, and execution of a technology help session in a retirement community. Meetings held to educate non-tech literate seniors on the benefits of technology through presentations and troubleshooting sessions. Featured on Columbus Fox 28 news.

    Code for Community, 2018 - 2022

    Organization focused on bringing the benefits of code to everyone. Developed a JavaScript game application and corresponding presentation to teach secondary students programming fundamentals. Assisted with teaching and mentoring the curriculum at many Columbus area secondary schools.

    Spotify Playlist Analyzer - (Python)
    Personal Project, 2020

    Django web application for analyzing Spotify playlists. Given a playlist URL, script uses HTTP queries to Spotify’s API to find interesting metrics including song danceability and energy. Outputs playlist average and outlier song statistics as well as percentiles calculated from published distributions. Source code can be found on GitHub.

    High Altitude Near Space Balloon
    Personal Project, 2019

    Successful preparation, launch and recovery of homemade payload designed to photograph the Earth. Payload reached an altitude of ~75,000ft. Some photos can be found here.

    Educator/Construction Worker in Africa
    GIVE Volunteers, 2018

    Worked in conjunction with other volunteers and local government to develop and improve primary and secondary school infrastructure for the children of Kairo, Tanzania. Climbed the tallest free-standing mountain in the world, Kilimanjaro.
